Steven Spielberg’s remake of “West Side Story” has found its Tony with Ansel Elgort.

Rumors of a “West Side Story” remake have been circulating for years. After completing his last film. 2017’s “The Post,” Spielberg was contemplating whether he wanted “West Side Story” to be his next project, or “The Kidnapping of Edgardo Mortara.” The latter centers is based off a novel by David I. Kertzer and focuses on a young Jewish boy in 19th century Italy. Also penned by Kushner, “The Kidnapping of Edgardo Martara” has taken a back seat as production of this high profile remake looms closer.
There is no official word as to who will play Maria, the other lead, but with shooting planned to begin in summer 2019, expect another casting announcement within the coming weeks.
