[ENTERTAINMENT] DISNEY PRINCESS STORY LINES CHALLENGED

Both Kristen Bell and Kiera Knightley have voiced their concerns recently about Disney princess story lines and their detrimental affect on the young girls in our society.

Bell specifically called out Snow White And The Seven Dwarfs while Knightley admitted that Cinderella  is banned from her household. Kristen Bell, who is notable for a number of television shows and movies has two daughters, Lincoln, 5, and Delta, 3. The Actress stated “Every time we close Snow White, I look at my girls and ask, ‘Don’t you think it’s weird that Snow White didn’t ask the old witch why she needed to eat the apple? Or where she got the apple?'” She explains that she also lets her kids know that she would never take food from a stranger asking them if they would, when they respond no, the actress knows she is doing something good.

Bell states that she also questions the guidelines of consent in the movie. She  also asks her children if they think it is weird that the prince kisses snow white without her permission and makes sure they know that it is not okay to kiss someone while they are sleeping.

Knightley who appeared on Ellen DeGeneres went as far as listing the movies her three-year-old daughter Edie is banned from viewing. The star states this movie is banned because Cinderella “waits around for a rich guy to rescue her”. Knightley also added her frustration about The Little Mermaid, which she stated was difficult because she actually loves the movie. She criticizes the film stating “I mean the songs are great, but do not give your voice up for a man. Hello.”

Though I agree with these two actresses 110%, I believe not allowing children to view quintessential kid movies that have become learning vehicles in life is not necessarily the right approach. Personally I think Bell has the right idea with watching the movie but then having the open dialogue and discussion about why this is not okay and explaining the faults in the film.

Make sure you comment down below how you feel about these mothers views on Disney princess movies. Do you agree or Disagree?
