Tuesday was the airing of the premiere of the “Roseanne” spinoff, “The Conners,” and of course Roseanne Barr had a lot to say about it.
After the racist comments five months ago from Roseanne, the network decided to cancel the revival of the popular show and construct a different resurrection, one that did not include the leading character. The network, killed off Roseanne Barr’s character, Roseanne Connor, stating it was the result of opioid abuse.
In response Barr released a tweet informing her viewers that she is not dead. The tweet read “I AIN’T DEAD, BITCHES!!!!”, the star later released a joint statement with her rabbi Shmuley Boteach. According to CNN the statement read “While we wish the very best for the cast and production crew of ‘The Conners,’ all of whom are deeply dedicated to their craft and were Roseanne’s cherished colleagues, we regret that ABC chose to cancel Roseanne by killing off the Roseanne Conner character,” the statement read in part. “That it was done through an opioid overdose lent an unnecessary grim and morbid dimension to an otherwise happy family show.”
It seems the show is trying to put the hugely publicized drama that led to the cancellation of “Roseanne” to bed and move on. The removal of Roseanne was well warranted and the right thing to do, exhibiting no matter who you are, your comments have consequences.
