The full trailer for “Dark Phoenix” debuted Thursday morning. Sophie Turner, who plays Sansa Stark on HBO’s hit “Game of Thrones”, is playing the famous mutant Jean Grey in the lastest “X-Men” film.
The trailer promises a return of many former “X-Men” actors, including Jennifer Lawrence, James McAvoy and Michael Fassbender. The trio were the center of many rumors after “X-Men: Apocalypse” was released, saying that they wouldn’t be returning to the franchise unless they got significant pay raises. It looks like they got their salary increases, because the trio are prominently featured throughout the trailer.
The preview shows that as a child, Grey’s mutant abilities seem to cause a car crash that most likely kills her parents, making it immediately clear that she’s always had difficulty controlling her powers.
It looks likes Jean will be pairing up with “X-Men’s” most famous villain, Magneto, and turning against the X-Men, using her abilities to cause mass destruction.
Professor X seems to be taking the responsibility for Jean, and it’s up to him and his fellow mutants to stop her before she signals the end of the world.
Jessica Chastain also appears in the trailer. According to the press release, she’s playing an extraterrestrial being.

The main storyline isn’t completely new to “X-Men” fans, as Grey’s powers and eventual demise were explored heavily in “X-Men: The Last Stand.” Is it worth revisiting when there are so many storylines in the “X-Men” universe to choose from.
With Disney’s Fox deal going through, it seems as though this will be Twentieth Century Fox’s last go at the X-Men franchise before it reverts to Marvel.
Are you excited for “Dark Phoenix” or are you more excited for the X-Men to become part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe?
“Dark Phoenix” will hit theaters on Valentine’s Day, February 14, 2019.
