“You’re tearing me apart Lisa!” yells Tommy Wiseau in “The Room” the cult 2003 film Wiseau starred in, wrote, directed and produced.
Known as the best worst movie of the 21st century, “The Room” has gained quite the fanbase in the 15 years since its release. Hundreds attend midnight screenings where they say lines with the characters, throw spoons at the screen and toss footballs across the theater. Its cult-like following has led some to label “The Room” as this generation’s “The Rocky Horror Picture Show” which also holds midnight screenings known for audience participation.
“The Room” has been hard to find online, that is until Wiseau decided to post the film in its entirety on his Youtube page, giving everyone the ability to watch the trainwreck from the comfort of their homes.
Not to be confused with the 2015 Brie Larson captivity drama “Room” “The Room” follows Wiseau as Johnny, a banker in San Fransisco whose fiance grows tired of him. That plot description doesn’t do the film justice, but it’s one of those movies you have to see to believe.
Wiseau and his film were catapulted to the front lines of public consciousness last year when James Franco directed and starred in “The Disaster Artist” a film that chronicled the making of “The Room.” Many assumed Franco was a lock for an Oscar nomination for playing Wiseau, but a #MeToo controversy likely played a part in his snub.
“The Disaster Artist” is now available to stream with Amazon Prime, making this a double feature everyone can stream without leaving their homes!
