[ENTERTAINMENT] ‘VICE’ TRAILER TEASES CHRISTIAN BALE AS DICK CHENEY

It’s time to take a closer look at the Bush presidency with Adam McKay’s upcoming film “Vice.”

Christian Bale is set to star as Dick Cheney, as the movie will follow him behind the scenes of the White House. Amy Adams is playing his wife, Lynne, and recent Oscar winner for “Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri” Sam Rockwell is taking on the role of George W. Bush.

This will be McKay’s first film since 2015’s award winning “The Big Short” which he also wrote and directed. That movie, which told the story of the housing bubble in a surprisingly digestible and easy-to-follow way, went on to win the Oscar for Best Adapted Screenplay. If that’s any indication, “Vice” will take a deep dive into Cheney and explain how he became the most powerful Vice President in a way that everyone, whether versed in politics or not, will be able to understand.

In 2008, Oliver Stone made “W.” which chronicled the life of the 43rd president. Josh Brolin played the title role, but because it was released when George W. was still in the daily spotlight, it didn’t capture much attention. Now that we’re over a decade out of the Bush presidency and in the current Trump administration, I imagine audiences might be more perceptive of a critical look at the 43rd  president’s administration.

“Vice” will debut in theaters on December 21, just in time for it to be eligible for awards consideration.

Do you have any interest in seeing “Vice”? Do you think that in this current political climate, it’ll be well received or mostly ignored?
