It seems like Lil Uzi is left on his own when it comes to the whole retirement thing. Nav was seemingly in alliance with Uzi taking a leave of absence until his friend came back. But Cash ended that early by not only confiscating his hard drive but also releasing a 7-track EP “BROWN BOY” then announcing Nav new album. Now here we are a week later with Nav’s new album “Bad Habits“.
Filled with 16-tracks with features coming from Meek Mill, Young Thug, Lil Durk, Gunna, and XO labelmate The Weekend who also executive produced the album. This album is the same old Nav but there are moments where you notice the development of the brown boy. The stigma on Nav is he never expands his content, all he talks about him being the first brown boy in the rap game, being poor, drinking lean, fucking girls, and flexing his high-class lifestyle. But I feel like he is finally learning how to changes lanes without comprising himself or at least talking about the same things in a different way.
On tracks like Tap(ft. Meek Mill), “Ralo”, Nav pays his respects to Meek and La artist Ralo for being his role model and putting him on game. On tracks “Time Piece” and “I’m Ready‘ Nav gives you a slight glimpse into his personal thoughts in regards to his struggles and being doubted in the game. He even dedicated a track to his mom “Why You Crying Mama” promising his mom that they have nothing to worry about now.
The classic Nav is still there so you’re guaranteed at least one banger you can cyph to while also taking that late night drive. Young Thug and Nav should think about making more music together because “Tussin” is a good example for creating a track that lets both artists shine. I was highly disappointed in the track with Gunna ” Hold Your Breath“, two people who have many bangers together they definitely drop the ball with a lackluster effort. But the biggest disappointment was the track that never made it to the album, and that was “Bad Habits” featuring none other than Lil Uzi. The track wasn’t cleared for whatever odd label problems Uzi been going through, but thank god Jay-Z stepped in today and solved all of it.
This is a decent to solid project for Nav. It doesn’t really tip the balance of his trajectory needle but I guess for somebody like Nav that’s a good thing. As a producer, Nav can go toe-to-toe with some of the top one in the game, but as an artist, he still has a long way to go. You can stream “Bad Habits” on all major streaming platforms.
