The lawyer of Eric Holder, the man accused of shooting Nipsey Hussle, has officially withdrawn from the case. Chris Darden stated in a Facebook post that his withdrawal is due to him and his family receiving death threats.
In the post he wrote, “After centuries of a history of black men hung from trees without trial, or after the thousands of cases of black men tried, convicted and executed without counsel … I cannot understand why in 2019 some people would deny a black man his 6th Amendment right to counsel of his choice. Or why defending such a man should invite threats not only against me but against my children too.”
Darden said that he might disclose the reasoning behind leaving the Holder case but he did issue a statement for the people sending the death threats: “To those who issued those threats to my children please pay close attention so there is no misunderstanding. Later. F**K YOU!”
I mean, of course Darden is right to be upset about the death threats to him and his children. That’s messed up and ridiculous to have received from simply defending a man who has not yet been proven guilty. That being said, should he really be surprised? Death threats are a regular thing in the world of the Internet, with celebrities receiving them for a lot less than defending the main suspect in the Nipsey Hussle murder case. Selena Gomez received them for simply dating Justin Bieber.
