SUMMER WALKER: LIFE ON EARTH EP REVIEW

Summer Walker releases her “Life On Earth” EP. This 5 song EP keeps you in the sexual R&B vibe you would expect from a Summer Walker project. Starting with “Let It Go” an acoustic guitar driven track speaking about looking back on a past relationship and trying to let it go. Telling him to “Let it go, you’re doing too much.” The guy turned out to be a different person than she expected.

“SWV” Summer gets sexual after getting away from the guy. Speaking about feeling “Weak in the knees,” and “Liking sexing in the back seat.” NO1-NOAH is featured on this adding the guys side of the sexual experience, speaking on being the guy she runs to after the last guy hurt her and didn’t treat her right. She is going to him for comfort and to do exactly what you would think. As he says, “I have seven days to make your knees weak.”

The PARTYNEXTDOOR feature on “My Affection” is a good fit with the sound of this EP. “I was just trying to fuck now I’m leaning towards love.” These two together make for a good song in the middle of the EP. They compliment each other well, and for a short EP it was good to see a few features, even though a 5 song Summer only EP is never a bad thing.

“White Tee” again featuring NO1-NOAH is another sexual song, “Treat me like white tees, don’t get me dirty….fuck on me.” However, I could have done with his verses in this song, I think his feature on “SWV” was a better showing from him, as this was basically his song because Summer added only one verse and some background. The song fits well in the sound of the album, out of the 5, this is the one I could have done with out.

Finishing with, “Deeper” another acoustic guitar track is when she gets back into straight up sexual talk. Using deeper as multiple meanings, speaking on not expecting the feelings to get deeper but how could they not when he is going deeper. This is a good way to finish the album, complimenting the way she started with a featureless track driven by acoustic guitars. “This wasn’t in my plans, guess we got to get deeper now.”

Overall a good album from Summer Walker. She is showing her ability as an artist and writer to give the audience great sounding songs and projects of both full album and short EP lengths. “Over It,” was a phenomenal project that I personally still go back and listen too, with “Life On Earth,” as the follow up she continues to give great music. At a time when we can’t go outside, this is a great album to be inside listening too with your significant other. True, depending on where your relationship status is some of the songs could strike a certain nerve. However, most of the album will get you in a bag that is never bad.

A great listen for fans of hers, R&B, and down tempo colored lights dim type music. A collection of songs that you can continue to listen to either on your own or with your significant other or when you want to get in that vibe.
