Breaking- 2020 Olympic Games Postponed

As we reported before, Canada and Australia have chosen not to attend the 2020 Olympic games. This a top of mounting pressure from other athletes/ countries to postpone the games amidst the growing Coronavirus threat. IOC member Dick Pound told USA TODAY Sports Monday afternoon that the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games are going to be postponed, likely to 2021, with the details to be worked out in the next four weeks.

“On the basis of the information, the IOC has, postponement has been decided,” Pound said in a phone interview. “The parameters going forward have not been determined, but the Games are not going to start on July 24, that much I know.”

The next steps according to Pound will come soon, “It will come in stages,” he said. “We will postpone this and begin to deal with all the ramifications of moving this, which are immense.”

This is massive; the Olympics is the last major event this year that is bound to amass a larger audience. However, it is important to point out that there is still a lot of details that need to be iron out for something this big. Major companies have massive investments in the games, and other sports usually switch their schedule to work with the Olympics. With the Olympics moving to a later date, it would have to be next year, as to not interfere with already established events.
