The game kept going and going. And after a while the fans at College Station began to yawn, but never were they restless.
In the Game of the Year in college football, the Texas A&M Aggies outlasted the LSU Tigers in a 74-72 seven overtime thriller on Saturday night at Kyle Field.
Kellen Mond threw a touchdown pass to Quartney Davis to tie the game before hitting Kendrick Rogers for a two-point conversion to give Texas A&M a wild victory over their SEC rivals.
The two-point conversion took place after a pass interference penalty on the LSU Tigers on the first attempt and a false start by Texas A&M on the offensive line.
This game went back and forth, with Kellen Mond and Joe Burrow combining for a whopping 12 total touchdowns. Joe Burrow would throw for three and run for three while Kellen Mond threw a career-high six touchdown passes.
The craziness that at first began with Kellen Mond’s last gasp touchdown throw to Quartney Davis with no time left in regulation to tie the game at 31-31 would just be the beginning of a fantastic football game that will be remembered as one for the ages.
Both defenses were tired and gassed and each offense took advantage of that as 10 touchdowns were scored in overtime.
No. 7 ranked LSU, who fell to 9-3 on the season, were one of the top defensive teams in the nation coming in while the No. 22 ranked Texas A&M Aggies were a potent offensive team, but never 74 points potent (I mean…how many teams are?!?)
This game, which saw a combined 1,017 total yards by both teams, is the highest scoring in FBS history. The game also tied the FBS record for most overtimes in a game.
