Nets Blow Lead, Game In Stinging Defeat
With the addition of Jimmy Butler to the roster, the Philadelphia 76ers figured out the puzzle they couldn’t in their last visit to Brooklyn.
In a come-from-behind effort, the Philadelphia 76ers defeated the Brooklyn Nets 127-125 on Sunday night at the Barclays Center to hand Brooklyn their third straight loss.
In a true heart breaker, Jimmy Butler sunk the Brooklyn Nets late with a game-winning step-back 3-pointer over Rondae Hollis-Jefferson with 0.4 seconds remaining in the game.
Butler finished the game with 34 points and 12 rebounds. Joel Embiid would add 32 points, 12 rebounds and four assists.
The Brooklyn Nets couldn’t keep the Philadelphia from using a wild rally in the fourth quarter to steal a game that appeared for a long while to be there’s.
Brooklyn led by as many as 20 points in this one and 19 in the second half as they could do no wrong on offense or defense.
The Brooklyn Nets offense dominated the Philadelphia 76ers through three quarters, shooting well over 57 percent from the field, but the team bottomed out late.
Turnovers hurt as they lost that battle 16-9. They also were out-shot at the free throw line, as Philadelphia went 27-for-33 while Brooklyn finished 15-for-20.
D’Angelo Russell scored a season-high 38 points while adding eight rebounds and eight assists, but his amazing performance was all for naught.
Spencer Dinwiddie had a big night, tying his career-high with 31 points, hitting 11 of his 15 shot attempts while adding five assists off the bench.
Brooklyn was outscored 38-23 in the fourth quarter and Russell struggled to find his groove late for Brooklyn, despite an impressive overall showing.
Brooklyn was looking to bounce back from two consecutive defeats by getting back to their identity and staying within it.
They did for three quarters, but after a second half implosion at home, they are now 0-2 during their four-game homestand.
The Brooklyn Nets will return to the court on Wednesday night when they host the visiting Utah Jazz at the Barclays Center.
