Nets’ Stumbles Continue With T-Wolves
Chicago’s favorite son Derrick Rose has had a revival in his NBA career to begin the season, and in a Black Friday matinee in Brooklyn, he continued his remarkable surge.
The Brooklyn Nets lost to the Minnesota Timberwolves 112-102 on Friday afternoon at the Barclays Center to drop their second straight game.
Derrick Rose torched the Brooklyn Nets off the bench for a game-high 25 points and the Minnesota Timberwolves swept the season series vs Brooklyn.
Rose blew by Nets defenders throughout the game and showed the range from deep by hitting both of his 3-point attempts.
Brooklyn failed to score in the paint in this one, and they uncharacteristically launched an absurdly Houston Rockets-like 45 3-pointers, hitting only 14 of them.
Both teams battled in the first half, with Brooklyn leading for much of the half until a late surge by Karl-Anthony Towns and the Timberwolves gave Minnesota a 54-49 lead at the half.
With strong offense and active defense, Tom Thibodeau’s team would open up a 17-point lead in the third quarter going into the fourth quarter.
Kenny Atkinson’s team fought, slicing that once 17-point deficit to four points with three minutes remaining after a 13-4 run field Brooklyn.
The Timberwolves would hang on, however, as Brooklyn failed to hit a field goal over the final four minutes of the game.
Joe Harris and Spencer Dinwiddie each finished with 18 points, but their efforts wouldn’t be enough to make up for a cold day from D’Angelo Russell, who finished with five points.
Strong bench contributions continued beyond Dinwiddie, as DeMarre Caroll and Shabazz Napier finished in double figures.
The Brooklyn Nets (8-12) began a four-game homestand on Friday, and they’ll need to get to work quickly as it’s not a promising start to an important stretch for a team that’s fighting to get back to .500.
The Brooklyn Nets will host the Philadelphia 76ers on Sunday evening at the Barclays Center looking to make it two straight vs their Atlantic rivals.
