The New York Yankees broke the 2001 Seattle Mariners team home run record of 264 home runs on Saturday vs the Boston Red Sox at Fenway Park.
In the fourth inning New York Yankees’ second baseman Gleyber Torres sent a opposite field blast off left-hander Eduardo Rodriguez to right field for a three-run to give the Yankees the team record for home runs. The feat comes a night after hitting four home runs to tie the mark in a 11-6 victory over their AL East rivals.
The Yankees added to that total with another home run by Giancarlo Stanton in the eighth inning as the Yankees won the game 8-5.
The Yankees tied the 2003 Boston Red Sox as the only team to have five players with 25+ home runs. The Yankees also have six players with at least 20 home runs this season.
New York (100-61) clinched home-field for their AL wildcard game next week vs the Oakland Athletics at Yankee Stadium.
Should they win the AL wildcard game, the MLB world will be on tap for a barnburner of a matchup in the ALDS between the Boston Red Sox and the New York Yankees.
