[Sports] Russell Wilson Signs Record Breaking Contract with Seahawks

Russell Wilson has agreed to a new contract extension with the Seattle Seahawks. The deal was made during the wee hours of the night, coming terms with an agreement during the final moments of Wilson’s preset April 15 deadline. The deal, per Ian Rapoport, is reported to be for four years and $140 million.

Full details for the #Seahawks and QB Russell Wilson: 4 new years, $140M. $65M to sign. Total guarantee: $107M. A no-trade clause. … Now, Wilson is under contract for 5 years and $157M. And staying in Seattle.💰💰💰 — Ian Rapoport (@RapSheet) April 16, 2019

The contract will make Wilson the highest paid quarterback in the league, making an annual $35 million per year. Wilson will be staying in Seattle for the foreseeable future, guaranteeing at least five more years as the head signal caller. As per the agreement, Wilson will make $65 million just from the signing bonus alone.

With the signing imminent, this will dispel the rumors that Wilson was not happy in Seattle and was looking for a change in scenery. It was rumored that Wilson wanted to play for the New York Giants, and was playing hard ball with the Seahawks to force his way to the Big Apple. New York is desperate to find a successor to long time QB Eli Manning and would have pounced at the chance to acquire Wilson.

Wilson will remain at the head of the Seahawks franchise and enters 2019 looking to get to his third Super Bowl. The Seahawks ended last season with a loss to the Dallas Cowboys in the postseason.
