[SPORTS] WALL SPOILS KNICKS DRAMATIC COMEBACK BID AT MSG

The Knicks Nearly Win A Game They Certainly Looked Out Of

David Fizdale was proud of his team’s never give up attitude on Saturday night and he hopes that becomes apart of the team’s identity moving forward.

The Knicks never gave up on Monday night, but it didn’t result in a ‘W’ in the win column.

The New York Knicks lost to the Washington Wizards 110-107 on Monday night at Madison Square Garden as their late rally came up short.

John Wall ruined the Knicks’ chances of completing a furious comeback in the final minutes of regulation as he hit a dagger 3-pointer to put Washington up six with 12 seconds remaining.

Wall finished the game with 18 points and 15 assists while his backcourt mate Bradley Beal scored a team-high 27 points to go along with eight rebounds and seven assists.

The New York Knicks were in the midst of a ugly second half vs. the Washington Wizards. Leading by as many as 11 points late in the second quarter and owning a 61-52 lead at the half, New York squandered their lead as they were outscored 34-19 in a showing that saw them discombobulated and lethargic at guarding the rim and creating shots for others.

Down by 15 with 3:33 left to play, Emmanuel Mudiay and the New York Knicks staged a rally as they went on a 12-0 run to slice Washington’s lead to three points with 35.1 seconds remaining, but were dealt a unlucky hand by John Wall.

The Knicks did a strong job at containing Wall, forcing him into a 7 for 20 night, but New York’s defense sagged to the point where coach Fizdale burned timeouts just to tear into his team for their lack of getting back in transition and not being competitive at the rim.

Tim Hardaway Jr. finished with a team-high 20 points in a low volume shooting night as he attempted only 15 shot attempts.

Damyean Dotson made the most of his 24 minutes off the bench as he scored 17 points while grabbing nine rebounds.

The offense didn’t make shots as they shot 41.1 percent from the field and made only 12 of 34 shots from 3-point range. That’s something Fizdale can live with, but what he can’t live with is being lax and disinterested on defense and taking poor shots that aren’t there.

The New York Knicks will get two days off before visiting the Boston Celtics at the TD Garden Arena.
